Our video below describes how our process works with a long term solution that includes removal and prevention.
Rodents like rats make for very elusive pests. They are mainly nocturnal and spend most of the day sleeping in their nest. They are agile climbers and live in high places like attics or above drop ceilings. If residents notice a roof rat during the day, it could point to the presence of a larger population just out of sight.
In favorable conditions, a mischief of rats can reproduce rapidly and give birth up to six times in a year, each time producing up to 10 pups per batch. If you have one male and female on your property, the rodent population can exponentially grow to over a thousand in just two years.
Rats are opportunistic survivors and often live with and near humans; therefore, they are known as commensals. Throughout human history, rats have traveled with us around the planet, stowing away on boats and settling wherever humans live. They feed on the food we throw away and can spread diseases among humans, like the medieval Black Death, which was spread by fleas that lived on rats.
They are also dangerous for wiring since rats are constantly gnawing on things. Rats’ super-strong teeth never stop growing! They have to keep nibbling to wear them down – or eating would become impossible!
For every property owner, this means the risk of an infestation that can affect the health and safety of your possessions, your property, and everyone inside of it. If an infestation exists, the numbers can be so great that DIY pest control solutions like a snap trap or rodent bait station may not be effective at curbing your rodent problem.
If you suspect that your home or business is crawling with rats, contact Pinnacle Pest Control. Our expert pest control company has protected residential and commercial properties in Sacramento and neighboring areas in California from these potentially damaging and disease-born pests. Let us handle your rat or mouse problem and allow you, your household, or your employees and customers to feel safe on your property.
Rodents are generally a public health risk to both homes and businesses because of two things they can do: carry disease and cause property damage. At Pinnacle Pest Control, we ensure your property is safe and free of rodents and any other pests to protect you from the potential risks that come with a rodent infestation.
Rodents are one of the major carriers for certain diseases – in fact, the Centers for Disease Control reports that they’re responsible for at least 35 serious diseases. This can include leptospirosis, salmonellosis, typhoid fever, and other diseases caused by organisms and bacteria transported from rodent bites, rodent waste, or consuming food and water contaminated by rats.
And on top of the health risks that can affect the people on your property, there’s also the risk of significant property damage. Rodents can harm your possessions, supplies, and even the structure of the building itself. Rodents have strong teeth and have a habit of burrowing to build their nest.
Rodents can bite through insulation, wires, and ductwork, causing issues with your ventilation and electrical system. The damage left behind can result in large repair costs – and even if the damage is fixed, there’s no guarantee it will stay that way unless you treat the root cause and get rid of the infestation. At worst, rodents can chew on electrical wires and cause fires. In fact a third of all electrical wires are caused by rodents.

Appearance: 12 - 18” long / Black or Brown
Behavior: Rats are omnivorous and will feed on almost anything available to them including tree bark, meat and grain. While known for being eating machines, they’re equally known as hoarders; often stashing seeds and nuts.
Only adding to intense infestation, roof rats are prodigious breeders. At only two and five months, they can start having four to six litters per year, each litter consisting of six to eight baby rats, with a life expectancy of a year.
Environment: These nocturnal rats are commonly found in both urban and rural areas, and can easily adapt to a wide range of environments. Tending to prefer living in dry upper levels of buildings, these accomplished climbers are commonly found in wall cavities and false ceilings. While in their densely populated nests, infectious diseases may be carried in their blood and can actively fester and spread.
Appearance: 3”- 4” long minus the tail. Gray Colored
Behavior: By nature mice are herbivores; they prefer to feed on cereal grains, but will eat almost any type of food and food scraps. They require very little water, and are known to store extra food in burrows and other hiding places.
Usually associated with rodents are the diseases they carry. In the case of House Mice, the major health risks surrounding them include salmonella and leptospirosis.
Environment: The house mouse can be found in both urban and rural areas, will easily adapt to a wide range of environments and can gain access to a home through an opening of only ¼ inch.
A: Rodents like rats are more likely to enter messy homes with easy entry points. Common entry points include gaps around your doors and windows, openings for your pipes and HVAC systems, tree limbs close to upper-floor windows, and broken roof tiles are just some of the ways rats can enter. Messy, cluttered homes are more prone to rodent infestations because it offers rodents food, water, nesting materials, and hidden locations in your home for them to establish their rat population and grow. Practices like leaving pet food in pet bowls overnight and not clearing out fallen fruit from your yard’s trees are some of the ways you may be unknowingly attracting rats to your home.
A: At Pinnacle Pest Control, we’ve mastered the science and art of pest and rodent control and can effectively eliminate all rodents on your property. In comparison, rodent traps can only eliminate a handful or rats or house mice at a time. However, it doesn’t treat the underlying infestation of young rodent pups growing, other existing mice, or even the entry points that got rodents into your home in the first place.
By inspecting your property, treating the infestation, and locating vulnerable entry points and other factors that attract rodents, you can keep your property clean and free of rats and mice. That’s why we offer a two-year guarantee on our rodent control services. Contact us today to learn more about our guarantee.
A: Rats are nocturnal creatures and are difficult to spot. Noticing rat activity in the day doesn’t necessarily mean an infestation, but it’s best to be sure. Some signs of rodent activity to look out for include:
